World War Z Gets Heavy With New "Heavy Ordnance" Update
World War Z fans, get ready to unleash a whole new level of zombie-slaying chaos. Saber Interactive is dropping a massive new free update, “Heavy Ordnance,” packed with new ways to tear through the ravenous hordes. Available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, this update introduces powerful new perks, challenging mutators, and fresh cosmetics to keep the zombie apocalypse feeling brand new.
More Power, More Perks
Leading the charge in this update is a complete overhaul of the game’s heavy weapons. Previously powerful but straightforward, these eight tools of destruction—from the Chainsaw to the Multi-shot Rocket Launcher—now come with three new perks each. Just like the standard weapon perks you’re used to, these offer a mix of tactical advantages and trade-offs, allowing for deeper strategic choices when building your loadout. Do you go for more damage, faster reloads, or a unique ability? The choice is yours, and it adds a whole new layer of depth to every run.
In addition to the heavy weapon perks, you’ll find a dozen new standard weapon perks to play around with, plus three new custom frames to deck out your gear.
New Mutators, New Mayhem
If you’re looking for a new challenge, the “Heavy Ordnance” update has you covered. Six new mutators have been added to the game’s Challenge Horde Mode, each designed to shake up your strategy and keep you on your toes.
Dead Pirate: Headshots no longer instantly kill zombies; they stay alive for a short time after.
Paralytic Toxin: Taking damage in close combat now slows you down, making quick escapes a lot harder.
Ouch!: When you’re grabbed by a zombie, a random grenade, molotov, or masking grenade explodes, potentially taking out a few enemies with you—or your teammates.
Sharing is Caring: When you use a medkit, its effects are applied to everyone on your team. Teamwork just got even more valuable.
Arm Weakness: This one’s a true test of skill—you cannot use heavy weapons during zombie waves.
Slot Machine: For a permanent twist, purchasable defense kits become random, so you never know what you’re going to get.
Style and Substance
What’s a new update without some fresh looks? Saber Interactive is also releasing two new cosmetic packs, each available for purchase.
The Vibrant Halloween Weapon Skin Pack brings a splash of spooky color to your arsenal with vibrant skins for weapons like the Mini-21 Scout Rifle and the SchreiTech Forest Warrior Chainsaw.
The Raging Phoenix Weapon Skin Pack sets your weapons ablaze with fiery new looks for the Gal9 Compact SMG, the Flamethrower, and more.
Powered by the Swarm Engine™, World War Z continues to deliver on its promise of massive, exhilarating zombie battles across the globe. With full crossplay and a list of locations that keeps growing—from New York to Rome and now to the Kamchatka peninsula—there’s never a dull moment in this fight for survival.
So, what are you waiting for? Log on, download the free update, and get ready to put your new heavy weapon perks to the test. Which mutator are you most excited (or terrified) to try first?
