Syd’s “GMFU” Proves She’s Still R&B’s Coolest Truth-Teller
Syd Returns With Rodney Jerkins-Produced “GMFU” Featuring Raphael Saadiq
Syd isn’t holding back. The GRAMMY-winning multi-hyphenate just dropped her new single “GMFU” (via Free Lunch/Warner Records), produced by hitmaker Rodney Jerkins with Raphael Saadiq on bass, and let’s just say… she dragged an ex for filth.
Set against a crunchy organ melody, Syd fires off barbs with the kind of smooth confidence only she can pull off. It’s a sharp pivot from her earlier release “Die For This,” proving once again that her pen lives somewhere between heartbreak and heat.
Of course, Syd’s no stranger to reinvention. Since her solo debut Fin in 2017, she’s helped shape the sound of a generation—leading The Internet through Hive Mind, scoring a GRAMMY with Beyoncé, and working with artists from Zayn to Kehlani. She’s also turned heads in high-fashion campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and Adidas, all while running her own studio in L.A.
This summer, Syd hit the UK with Billie Eilish. This fall, she’s joining Renee Rapp for the “Bite Me” U.S. tour—ending with a massive show at the KIA Forum in L.A. Consider this your sign: don’t miss Syd live.
