Lara Croft’s Ultimate Test: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Gets Massive Challenge Mode Update
Lara Croft is celebrating 30 years at the top, and Aspyr is gifting fans a lethal new way to play.
The tomb raiding icon is having a busy year. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise, Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics have deployed a substantial free content update for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft.
Whether you’re a veteran who can navigate the St. Francis Folly in your sleep or a newcomer looking for a reason to jump in, this update—and a surprising jump to new platforms—makes today a massive win for fans.
The headline addition is the all-new Challenge Mode, a free patch that transforms the classic trilogy into a customizable gauntlet. This isn’t just a “Hard Mode” toggle; it’s a deep dive into difficulty manipulation. Players can now modify:
Health and Damage scaling
Enemy density and behavior
Resource bonuses
The hook? The higher the difficulty rating you survive, the more you unlock. This adds a “rogue-lite” flavor to the platforming classic, ensuring that no two runs through the Venetian canals or Antarctic mines feel the same.
It wouldn’t be Tomb Raider without a wardrobe change. The update introduces 10 new outfits, but they aren’t just cosmetic. For the first time, these threads come with upgraded abilities:
Speed Boosts: Run faster through timed traps.
Deep Diver: Hold your breath longer in those claustrophobic underwater tunnels.
Combat Buffs: Hit harder to take down the T-Rex with ease.
You’ll need to hunt down 15 new achievements to unlock the full closet, adding some serious meta-game depth to the collection.
In a surprise move, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered has officially launched on the Nintendo Switch 2, alongside a first-ever mobile debut on iOS and Android.
For those moving to the new Nintendo hardware, the upgrades are significant. The Switch 2 version boasts:
Docked Mode: 1440p resolution at 60 FPS.
Handheld Mode: A buttery-smooth 1080p at 120 FPS.
Note: Existing owners on the original Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the Switch 2 version for free via a coming-soon update.
To sweeten the deal, the collection is currently listed at $14.99 (50% off) on most platforms for a limited time. If you’re on mobile, you can even download the app and play the first level of each game for free before committing to the full purchase.
Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, iOS, and Android.
