Alemeda and Doechii Are Ready to Go to War For the Ones They Love
TDE’s rising star Alemeda is making one thing crystal clear: loyalty isn’t cute, it’s lethal. The Ethiopian-American powerhouse is dropping her new high-voltage single, “Beat A B!tch Up,” and she’s brought TDE’s own “Swamp Princess,” Doechii, into the fray for a collaboration that’s pure, unfiltered aggression wrapped in platonic passion.
Forget the cute BFF-core. Written entirely by Alemeda and Doechii, the track is an unflinching exploration of bonds that run deeper than romance, where protection transforms seamlessly into straight-up confrontation. They trade fearless verses about the lengths they’ll go to for the people they hold down—a sonic shot fired that proves platonic love is just as fierce and uncompromising as any other. It’s a full-throttle commitment to your chosen family, even when it costs you.
“‘Beat A B!tch Up’ is about caring so deeply for someone that you’d do anything for them, even if they wouldn’t do the same for you,” Alemeda shares. “Obviously, the title is not literal, it’s more about how far I’d go to show up for people, even when it hurts me.”
The accompanying music video, directed by Omar Jones (known for his work on Doechii & JT’s “Alter Ego”), is a whole cinematic mood. Shot in the moody, industrial landscape of San Pedro harbor, the visuals find Alemeda and Doechii completely running the show aboard a ship, backed by an all-female band. It’s a meticulously styled world where women call the shots, and they look absolutely lethal doing it.
Alemeda opened up about the adrenaline-fueled shoot, proving she commits to the visuals as much as the venom in her verses. “Filming the video was such an incredible experience. I’d never been on the back of a jet ski before (I was low key scared ’cause I can’t swim) but I wanted to push myself to get the best shots possible. We even had a trained cat on set, per my request. Doechii looked stunning and brought such powerful energy—she gave me amazing direction throughout. And I am obsessed with the firework scene.”
“Beat A B!tch Up” is the latest look into Alemeda’s highly-anticipated upcoming project, But What The Hell Do I Know (out Nov 7th via Top Dawg Entertainment/Warner Records). The project is being teased as a fearless collision of pop-punk energy, introspective lyricism, and a genre-defying ambition that’s ready to tear down walls.
Growing up between Ethiopia and Arizona, Alemeda—the eldest daughter in an East African family—funneled hard-won lessons of loyalty, love, and life into her music. With co-signs and features from the likes of Doechii and Rachel Chinouriri in her corner, she’s transforming her personal truths into anthems that punch, provoke, and resonate with a generation that knows true strength means protecting your peace and your people at all costs.
Get ready. This is just the beginning of Alemeda’s lethal reign.
